despite how amazing a ball player he was, his life was so messed up, until he retired and and became religous, he was never truly at peace, he was grown up to care only of basketball, and that really messed him up, as a human, but it made him amazing as a player

In my opinion, Pete Maravich could play in today´s NBA. Granted, he would have trouble defending guyslike Kobe, Dwayne Wade, Allen Iverson. But, Pete could do alot of things with the ball, especially shoot it, he was a pure shooter and he knew how to get a shot offand a great passer. So yes, I believe he would have been successful in today´s NBA.

Walnut, yes that treatment was shameful, but don't compare it to what black athletes had to go thru...Pete was treated that way because he was making 3 times what his teammates were, the fact that he was white helped him earn that premium. So his teammates were jealous, but Pete never had to eat from kitchens or stay at flop houses that would not admit him due to skin color.

Interesting how the last guy compared Pistol to Mozart. Mozart is a great comparison. Both of them were prolific, both were nearly peerless and both of them died young. Also Pete began a rebirth before he passed on, as Mozart enjoyed a resurgence to his career before his demise.

The way some of the African-American players treated him during his first couple of years was disgraceful...I was at a Celtic game in the earky 70's against the Hawks and players like Paine for Atlanta were referring to him as"BOY". Would of been different if he were a black player. He just wante to be well liked and they treated him like shit.Would have been a different story if he were black, right?

I was a big Pistol fan..BIG.Folks back in the day thought he was nothing but a gun...but he was the only real player of talent LSU had.He was a great passer in the pros putting up big numbers in assists. He played a couple of games with DrJ with the hawks during the pre season and it was common knowledge they would have been a great team

Yeah he had a 44% FG average during his NBA career but, THAT IS COUNTING 3 POINT SHOTS THAT THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THEN! and plus it's not like his teammates could score either.
